Dombivli, May 1, 2026:
The long-pending Mothagaon railway overbridge project on Retibunder Road in Dombivli has moved a step forward, with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation starting the tender process for work connected to the proposed bridge.

The project has been reported at around ₹170 crore and is expected to help ease traffic at one of Dombivli’s important railway crossing points. The Mothagaon crossing has been a regular congestion point for motorists using Retibunder Road, especially those travelling towards Mankoli Bridge and further towards Thane.

The proposed railway overbridge was earlier planned as a two-lane structure. It has now been revised as a four-lane bridge to handle increased traffic in the coming years.

This is important because the Dombivli–Mankoli–Thane route is no longer just a local road connection. It is becoming a regular movement corridor for residents, office-goers and businesses travelling between Dombivli, Thane, Bhiwandi and other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Reported Project Details

According to current reports, the Mothagaon railway overbridge is expected to improve east-west movement in Dombivli and provide smoother access to Thane via the Mankoli Bridge route.

The project timeline has been reported at 24 months from commencement. Reports also state that after completion, travel time between Dombivli and Thane may reduce from nearly one hour to around 25 minutes.

However, the project is currently at the tender stage. The actual commuter benefit will depend on tender finalisation, railway coordination, approach-road work, traffic planning and execution on the ground.

A Long-Pending Connectivity Gap In Dombivli

Dombivli has strong residential demand, but road connectivity has remained a major challenge. Railway crossings, narrow approach roads and slow east-west movement have affected daily travel for years.

The Mothagaon crossing is one such point where traffic frequently slows down. A railway overbridge at this location can provide motorists with a continuous road connection over the railway line and reduce reliance on the existing crossing.

For daily commuters, this can make a practical difference. The route is especially relevant for people travelling from Dombivli towards Mankoli Bridge, Thane, Bhiwandi, Wagle Estate and other employment corridors.

Impact On The Mankoli–Thane Route

The Mankoli Bridge has already improved the way many Dombivli and Kalyan residents connect with Thane. But for many commuters, reaching the bridge from within Dombivli still takes time due to local traffic and railway crossing delays.

The Mothagaon railway overbridge can help improve this weak point.

If completed as planned, it can make the Mankoli route more useful for daily travel and not just occasional movement. This can support Dombivli’s position as a residential market for buyers working in Thane, Bhiwandi, Ghodbunder Road, Wagle Estate and other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Real Estate Relevance For Dombivli

For the real estate market, this project should be seen as a positive connectivity update. It may not change property prices overnight, but it can improve buyer confidence in the long run if executed as planned.

Dombivli’s growth is increasingly linked to better road connectivity. The Mankoli Bridge, the Thane-Dombivli Link Road corridor, Kalyan-Shilphata connectivity and other planned upgrades are gradually changing how the region connects with Thane and Mumbai.

The Mothagaon railway overbridge can add another important link to this network.

For end users, shorter and more predictable travel time is a major decision factor. For investors, better connectivity can improve the long-term appeal of micro-markets around Retibunder Road, Mothagaon and the Mankoli approach belt.

Areas To Watch Around The Mothagaon Railway Overbridge

The Mothagaon railway overbridge project is likely to be closely tracked by residents, homebuyers and investors across key Dombivli and Thane-connectivity micro-markets, especially:

  • Dombivli West
  • Mothagaon
  • Retibunder Road
  • Kopar Road access points
  • Mankoli Bridge approach belt
  • Dombivli–Thane movement corridor
  • Thane-Dombivli Link Road influence zone
  • Kalyan-Dombivli growth corridor

These locations may gain more attention if the project moves from the tender stage to actual ground execution without major delays.

Dombivli Real Estate Outlook

The Mothagaon railway overbridge is an important update for Dombivli because it addresses a daily travel issue that has affected residents for years. Dombivli has always had strong residential demand due to its affordability, railway access and established local ecosystem. The larger concern has been road connectivity and travel time towards Thane and other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

If this bridge progresses well, it can strengthen the Dombivli–Mankoli–Thane movement and improve the daily-use value of this route.

For homebuyers and investors, the next stages are important to track: tender award, work commencement, railway coordination, approach-road progress and completion timeline.
