MMRDA Initiates DPR for Saket–Padgha Elevated Corridor
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated the Detailed Project Report (DPR) process for a new elevated expressway corridor connecting Saket (Thane) to Padgha, which will provide direct access from Thane to the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway).
This development marks a major shift in regional mobility planning, as Thane will no longer rely on Kalyan–Murbad routes to enter the Samruddhi corridor. Instead, the city will gain its own expressway-grade connectivity link into the national expressway network.
Planned Alignment — Originating from Saket, Thane
As per the DPR framework currently under review:
- The corridor is proposed to begin near Saket Junction in Thane, where the Anand Nagar–Saket elevated bypass currently terminates
- It will align along the NH-160 (Thane–Nashik Highway), which is being widened into an 8-lane expressway-standard corridor
- It will pass through the Kalher / Mankoli industrial stretch
- It will merge near the Padgha–Amane interchange, providing direct entry to the Samruddhi Mahamarg
The total corridor length is currently estimated at ~21–22 km, combining elevated structures and at-grade sections. Final alignment and structural specifications will be confirmed once the DPR is submitted and approved.
Why This Corridor Is Significant for Thane
- Direct Samruddhi Expressway access for Thane — without routing via Kalyan or rural access roads
- Positions Majiwada–Saket as a major interchange node, enhancing Thane’s status as a regional mobility hub
- Reduces transit congestion and improves outbound connectivity toward Nashik, Aurangabad, Shirdi, Nagpur, and Marathwada industrial belts
- Complements the ongoing NH-160 widening program between Majiwada and Vadape, aligning with NHAI’s expressway integration plans
Project Status — Officially in DPR Stage
- Stage: DPR & feasibility evaluation initiated by MMRDA
- Next Actions: Alignment confirmation, agency approvals, land mapping, and clearance coordination with NHAI, MSRDC, and Thane Municipal authorities
- TREN will track all official planning updates, alignment disclosures, and DPR filings as they progress
