A Fresh Breath for Thane’s Urban Core
Thane has reinforced its standing as one of Maharashtra’s most liveable cities with the inauguration of Rajmata Jijau Udyan, popularly known as the Oxygen Park, at Manpada. The green project was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, marking another step in the city’s sustainability-led transformation.
Spread across 3.5 acres opposite Hyde Park Residences in Manpada, the park has been developed under the Urban Garden Development Program with an investment of nearly ₹4 crore. Designed as an urban “oxygen bank,” it aims to enhance air quality, biodiversity, and wellness in the fast-developing Vartaknagar–Manpada corridor — one of Thane’s most dynamic residential belts.
Features That Define the Oxygen Park
- Over 15,000 trees and plants covering more than 100 species of medicinal and flowering varieties such as Gudmar, Adulsa, Haldi, Citronella, Camphor, Bael, and Rudraksha.
- Preservation of heritage banyan and pipal trees, blending ecological balance with heritage value.
- An artificial pond with aquatic plants and natural filtration features.
- A 500-metre walking path, QR-coded tree identifiers, and milestone markers for environmental learning.
- More than 500 bamboo plants to enhance oxygen generation and reduce airborne pollutants.
- Eco-sensitive lighting designed to minimise disturbance to birds and nocturnal species.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde noted that “the difference in air quality becomes immediately noticeable upon entering the park,” while reaffirming the government’s commitment to the Green Thane Mission. He added that over 2.09 lakh trees have already been planted across the city in 2025.
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao stated that the park was completed within record time, following directives issued in August 2025, underscoring the Thane Municipal Corporation’s commitment to environmentally friendly civic infrastructure.
Why Oxygen Park Matters for Thane Real Estate
For Thane’s property market, the Oxygen Park represents more than civic beautification — it’s a sustainable value catalyst.
- Enhancing Livability: Green zones directly influence the microclimate, wellness, and appeal of nearby residential micro-markets such as Manpada, Vartaknagar, and Hiranandani Estate.
- Market Differentiation: Developers can highlight proximity to eco-themed public spaces as a genuine lifestyle and branding advantage.
- Urban Balance: Thane continues to lead among metro suburbs in balancing infrastructure expansion — such as Metro Line 4, the Twin Tunnel Project, and Thane Coastal Road — with green-space creation.
By combining infrastructure progress with ecological preservation, Thane continues to evolve as a smart, green, and growth-ready city.
