The Southward Extension That Completes Mumbai’s Metro Spine

Mumbai’s next great metro chapter has begun. Metro Line 11, a 17.4-kilometre fully underground corridor, will connect Wadala to CST, Colaba, and Gateway of India.
Planned as the southern extension of Metro Line 4 (Wadala – Kasarvadavli), it promises a continuous metro route from Thane’s suburbs to South Mumbai’s seafront, without road congestion or train interchanges.

Route & Stations

The preliminary alignment features around 10 stations — Wadala, Sewri, Prince Dock, Carnac Bunder, CST, Marine Lines, Churchgate, Colaba, and Gateway of India.
The line will interconnect with Metro 3 (Colaba–BKC–SEEPZ) and suburban rail networks, creating Mumbai’s first true north–south metro axis.

MMRCL Seeks Consultant – Project Gathers Pace

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has invited bids for a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) to provide civil, architectural, and systems planning services.
This move marks the project’s formal design stage, with tunnelling expected once clearances and land coordination conclude — likely post-2026.

Why It Matters for Thane & MMR

Metro Line 11 is not just a South Mumbai upgrade — it’s the final link completing Thane’s metro network. With Lines 4 and 4A already bridging Kasarvadavli to Wadala, this new corridor extends that chain all the way to the Arabian Sea.
It will allow Thane commuters to travel from Ghodbunder to Gateway in roughly 70 minutes, redefining location logic for both residential buyers and investors.

Broader Urban Impact

Once operational, Line 11 will:
• Cut travel time between Thane and Colaba to approximately 70 minutes
• Ease traffic on the Eastern Freeway and JJ Flyover
• Integrate with the Waterfront Rejuvenation Plan and Marine Drive conservation framework

Line 11 is more than transport — it is Mumbai’s new subterranean artery, blending cutting-edge engineering with heritage-zone sensitivity.
