Media reports say a review meeting took place at MMRDA headquarters. Kalyan MP Dr Shrikant Eknath Shinde chaired the meeting. Senior MMRDA officials attended it.
The discussion focused on Metro Lines 5, 12 and 14. It also revisited possible extensions across the Kalyan–Dombivli–Badlapur–Thane grid. However, no formal notification has been issued yet.
Proposals Discussed (As Reported)
Metro Line 5: Extensions Beyond The Thane–Bhiwandi–Kalyan Corridor
Reports say officials reviewed eastward extensions in phases. The reported elements include:
- Line 5A: Durgadi Naka → Kalyan → Ulhasnagar → Ambernath → Chikhloli
- Extension beyond Chikhloli to Badlapur (also mentioned as Chikhloli → Badlapur)
- Titwala spur: Durgadi → Titwala
Metro Line 12: Proposal To Link Thane City Via Mumbra–Kalwa
Reports also mention an extension from Shilphata. The proposed route runs via Mumbra and Kalwa. It aims to connect into Thane city.
Metro Line 14: Faster Planning And Execution Push
Reports say the review asked for faster progress on Metro Line 14. It positioned Line 14 as a key corridor for the eastern suburban belt. Additionally, it aligns with the wider Kalyan–Badlapur growth arc in public reporting.
Multi-level Integrated Transport Corridor Concept
The review also flagged a Multi-level Integrated Transport Corridor. It stacks road at grade, flyover, and metro viaduct in one vertical right-of-way. This model targets stretches with tight land availability.
In addition, the review linked this idea to select sections tied to Lines 5, 12 and 14. Even so, feasibility will decide it. Corridor geometry and utilities will also shape it. Statutory approvals will remain mandatory.
Current Public Project Overviews
MMRDA’s published project overviews currently list:
- Metro Line 5: Thane–Bhiwandi–Kalyan (24.90 km, 15 stations)
- Metro Line 12: Kalyan–Taloja (23.57 km, 19 stations; Nilje depot; published project completion cost ₹5,865 crore)
For now, treat the extensions as proposals under examination. They still need scope updates through planning and approvals.
