Thane’s connectivity blueprint is poised for a significant advancement. According to a recent Times of India report (September 30, 2025), the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 21-km double-decker flyover corridor between Shil Phata and Ranjnoli has been completed. Tenders are set to be floated soon by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), marking a crucial step forward in the project’s development.
Official Government Filings Back the Plan
While the “double-decker” terminology comes from media reporting, government documents corroborate the project’s scope:
- MMRDA Engineering Division Project List explicitly mentions “Flyover at Shil Phata & Flyover at Kalyan” as active works under DPR/technical evaluation.
- The Forest Clearance Portal (Government of India) lists land diversion applications for the “Construction of Flyover at Kalyanphata Junction and Shil Phata Junction”.
- A July 2025 MMRDA tender (mirrored on aggregator sites) sought consultants to “review & finalise DPR for construction of 21 km flyover from Shilphata–Kalyan–Ranjnoli”, confirming DPR work is under peer review and pre-bid preparation.
Why This Project Matters
- Regional Decongestion: The corridor will ease traffic across the Kalyan–Shil–Bhiwandi belt, a critical link between Thane, Navi Mumbai, and the Mumbai–Nashik Highway.
- Industrial & Logistics Impact: With warehousing clusters and industrial estates dotting this stretch, improved access will support freight efficiency.
- Real Estate Upside: Enhanced connectivity is expected to boost demand in Dombivli, Kalyan, and Bhiwandi townships along the corridor.
The Road Ahead
Although the DPR has been marked as “completed,” several key aspects remain pending, including the final design, funding structure, and environmental clearances. The official MMRDA Authority minutes and Government Resolutions (GRs) will provide the binding framework once tenders are formally floated.
