Thane, 27 September 2025 – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Thane, Shri Eknath Shinde, has announced an urgent and far-reaching development agenda aimed at transforming Thane into one of Maharashtra’s most progressive districts and addressing the region’s immediate needs.
Key Focus Areas
- Traffic & Connectivity: An expert committee under MMRDA will deploy AI- and drone-based traffic management systems to tackle congestion and streamline movement across the district.
- Healthcare & Education: All primary health centres will be upgraded into Smart Health Centres, while municipal and zilla parishad schools will transition into Smart Schools with modern facilities.
- Flood Relief & Infrastructure Repair: The rapid restoration of roads, bridges, schools, and health facilities in flood-affected areas has been prioritised.
- Water Supply: Expansion of dam projects, including raising the height of Chikhali Dam and implementing lift mechanisms from the Ulhas River, will secure reliable drinking water.
- Tourism & Agriculture: Thirty-nine tourist locations will be developed under the “Explore Thane” initiative, while natural farming will be expanded to more than 7,000 hectares to support sustainable livelihoods.
- Sustainability: Rooftop solar projects will be installed across government buildings, reducing reliance on conventional power sources.
- Governance & Accountability: The launch of “Seva Samvad”, a citizen feedback platform for faster grievance redressal, along with strict instructions for 100% utilisation of the ₹1,252.99 crore district plan funds.
Leadership & Accountability
In line with his emphasis on good governance, Shri Shinde also ordered the suspension of an MSRDC engineer after receiving complaints about poor road works in Thane. He reiterated that transparency, accountability, and full utilisation of sanctioned funds are non-negotiable.
