In a significant policy move, the Maharashtra Government has cancelled the appointment of all Authorized Service Providers (ASP) engaged in online registration of Leave & License agreements.

The decision, announced through an official notification on 28 August 2025 by the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps, takes immediate effect.

The government stated that this step was taken after receiving several complaints of irregularities and malpractices by certain service providers. Issues included overcharging, misuse of the registration system, and inefficiencies in execution.

With advancements in technology, the online registration process has now become more accessible and transparent for citizens, eliminating the need for intermediaries. Henceforth, citizens will be able to register their Leave & License agreements directly via the government’s e-registration portal.

The notification also mentioned that the government will issue further directions regarding the handling of deposits and balances collected by ASPs in the past.

This move is expected to enhance transparency, reduce costs, and simplify procedures for lakhs of tenants, landlords, and property consultants across Maharashtra.
